Experienced striker, Chris O’Grady, became the Spireites eighth summer signing of 2017, turning down a host of clubs to sign a two-year deal with the club.
O’Grady started his professional career at Leicester City in 2003, he made his first appearance off the bench in the Foxes’ 2-0 victory over Grimsby Town. He would go on to make 24 appearances in two years at the club.
While at Leicester, O’Grady enjoyed season-long loan moves at both Notts County (2004/05) and Rushden and Diamonds (2005/06).
He signed a one-year contract at Rotherham united where he played 51 times scoring 13 goals, earning the team a 10th place finish in League One.
In 2008 he joined Oldham Athletic, for an undisclosed fee, signing a two-year contract. Within that two-year period,
O’Grady would be sent out on several loan projects including the likes of Bury, Bradford City, Stockport County and Rochdale.
His spell at Spotland was a prolific one, scoring an impressive 15 goals in 24 games, a spell that earned him a permanent move to ‘Dale.
After a rather successful season playing for Rochdale, O’Grady moved to Sheffield Wednesday, scoring a further 13 goals in 60 matches.
Spells at Barnsley, Brighton and Hove Albion, Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest followed, before the striker took the decision to sign for the Spireites – a move that he described as: “The type of club and project that is just perfect for me.
“The club is too big to be in this division and the objective now for all of us as a team is to get back in League One and then build on that."
