In recent years a few players have played for both sides and we take a look at four players who have plied their craft in north Derbyshire and at Mill Farm.

1. Lewis Montrose – Chesterfield on loan (2009) & AFC Fylde (2017-Present)

In February 2009, Lewis Montrose joined Chesterfield on loan from Wigan Athletic until the end of the season.

During his time at Saltergate, the midfielder made 12 appearances without scoring in League Two before making a permanent transfer to Wycombe Wanderers at the end of that season.

He won promotion with Chairboys and also won League Two with his next club, Gillingham. He also had spells with Oxford United, York City and Stockport County.

Montrose moved to newly-promoted National League side AFC Fylde in May 2017. He has spent the last two-and-a-half years at Mill Farm, scoring four times in over 60 appearances and also winning the FA Trophy with the Coasters.

2. Laurence Maguire – Chesterfield (2015-Present) & AFC Fylde on loan (2017)

The only current Chesterfield player to feature in the list captained the academy side before signing his first professional contract in 2015.

Since then Maguire has become a regular fixture at the Proact Stadium, playing for the Spireites in League One, League Two and the National League.

His only loan spell came in 2017 when he was sent out on loan to AFC Fylde. The defender only played five times for the Coasters before returning to north Derbyshire just a month later.

Maguire has gone on to play for the England C squad and has become a fan favourite with Proact faithful. The 22-year-old has played over 80 times for the Blues, scoring three goals.

3. Andy Kellett – Chesterfield on loan (2017-2018) & AFC Fylde (2019-Present)

Andy Kellett started his career with Bolton Wanderers, going out on loan to Plymouth Argyle and Manchester Unite before moving to Wigan Athletic in 2015.

He made his debut for the Latics as they won 3-2 at the Proact Stadium in September 2015. He moved to north Derbyshire to reunite with former manager Gary Caldwell on a season-long loan in 2017.

The versatile midfielder made 41 appearances for Chesterfield, scoring four times including a goal against fierce rivals Mansfield Town.

Kellett joined Fylde in December 2019 following his release from Notts County. The 26-year-old has struggled for game time, only appearing for 19 minutes in two FA Trophy appearance since his move.

4. Alex Whitmore – Chesterfield (2018) & AFC Fylde (2019-Present)

Alex Whitmore started his career at Burnley but struggled to break into the first team subsequently having loan spells with Chester, Gateshead, Morecambe and Bury.

The defender moved to Chesterfield in January 2018 on a free transfer. His stint was short as he made 15 appearances with his only goal coming in a 3-1 loss to Lincoln City.

Whitmore moved to Grimsby Town at the end of the 2018/19 season and spent a full season at Boundary Park before moving to AFC Fylde in the summer of 2019.

Since then the 24-year-old has become a regular fixture in the Coasters' starting XI, making 28 appearances in all competitions this term.
