Chesterfield and AFC Fylde meet for only the fifth time this weekend.
The Spireites have had the upper hand in the previous four fixtures, never losing to the Coasters. We take a look at the previous meetings between the two sides.
1. Chesterfield 0-0 AFC Fylde – (6/10/2018)
In the first ever meeting between Chesterfield and AFC Fylde, both sides cancelled each other out and were forced to settle for a goalless draw.
Attempts on goal were hard to come by with Joe Cardle squandering the best chance. The midfielder sliced his effort over the crossbar from just a few yards out.
Curtis Weston was shown a red card for handball with just five minutes to go. However, the decision was overturned due to the linesman flagging Jim Kellermann offside.
Despite the home side trying to force their way past the Fylde defence, the game ended in a stalemate.
2. AFC Fylde 1-3 Chesterfield – (20/10/2018)
Two weeks later, the teams met each other at Mill Farm in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round for a place in the first round proper.
The home side took the lead after 13 minutes when the ball fell to Danny Rowe inside the penalty area and he fired a shot past Callum Burton.
Will Evans equalised for the Spireites with his 25-yard rocket of a free-kick before Tom Denton gave the visitors the lead with his calm penalty.
Denton popped up with his second of the game with 20 minutes to go, heading home powerfully from a corner on the right-hand side. The win secured the Blues' place in the FA Cup first round.
3. AFC Fylde 0-1 Chesterfield – (16/2/2019)
Chesterfield’s first league trip to the home of the Coasters also ended in victory following an early goal from Marc-Antoine Fortune.
The veteran striker skilfully danced his way past a few defenders before unleashing a powerful left-footed strike which squirmed its way past Jay Lynch and into the back of the net.
Nick Haughton tried his best to pull Fylde on level terms, but his shot crashed against the upright.
Ellis Chapman almost doubled the lead, however a last stitch clearance put a stop to that.
Dave Challinor’s side continued to push for the equaliser, nevertheless the referee brought the game to an end, handing the Spireites their second successive win.
4. AFC Fylde 1-3 Chesterfield – (8/10/2019)
Earlier in the season, Chesterfield travelled to the north-west in search for a third win in a row at Mill Farm.
The first half was an eventful one, but the opening goal was scored ten minutes into the first half. Mike Fondop rolled the ball back to Curtis Weston, who took aim and launched his effort into the bottom right corner of the goal.
John Sheridan’s side doubled their lead just 11 minutes later when Denton flicked the ball onto Fondop and the striker poked home to send the travelling fans wild.
Fondop added his second with nine minutes to go after he headed home from Jay Sheridan’s in-swinging corner. Tyler Forbes nodded home to reduce the lead but the Spireites went back to north Derbyshire with all three points.
