The Spireites first game of 2020 ended in a loss after falling to a 3-0 defeat to Solihull Moors at Damson Park.
John Sheridan made just the one change from the defeat to Halifax Town with Liam Mandeville coming in for Gevaro.
The home side had the ball in the net within the first minute after former Spireite Jake Beesley lofted the ball over Shwan Jalal but was flagged offside.
A few minutes later, Josef Yarney was forced off with an early injury with the returning Robbie Weir taking his place.
Just before the half-hour mark, Solihull took the lead through Beesley. The forward was put through on goal and chipped the stranded Jalal (29).
Chesterfield almost found an immediate equaliser when Mike Fondop headed on Weir’s cross. Ryan Boot got down low to stop the striker’s effort.
The visitors had a couple of good chances to end the half with Fondop and Scott Boden both heading wide from Jay Sheridan crosses
Fondop was handed a golden chance early in the second half but his low effort was saved smartly by the foot of Boot. Jack McKay looked to latch onto the rebound but he scuffed his chance.
Just after the hour mark, Jalal made two fantastic saves from Jamey Osbourne and Beesley efforts to keep the Spireites in the game.
However, Solihull Moors doubled their lead with 20 minutes to go. James Ball's blocked shot fell to Beesley, who struck home from close range to get his second goal of the afternoon (70).
The hosts scored their third nine minutes later. Paul McCallum jumped the highest to nod home from Tyrone Williams' cross (79).
