Nathan Tyson became the first-ever Spireites player to score a hat-trick after coming off the bench as Chesterfield comprehensively beat Ebbsfleet United 4-0 at the Proact Stadium.
John Pemberton made just one change to the side that beat Wrexham last time out. Liam Mandeville came in for Tyson.
Chances were limited in the first knockings of the game with neither side being able to create any clear-cut opportunities.
Ebbsfleet's best chance came just after the half-hour mark when Tomi Adeloye's back-heel rolled across the goalmouth and away from danger.
Three minutes later, Jonathan Smith had Chesterfield’s best chance of the game. His 25-yard effort flew just wide of the mark.
The hosts continued to apply pressure towards the Ebbsfleet goal. Tom Denton knocked the ball down to Liam Mandeville but he poked the ball past the left post.
Added time brought two good chances the way of the Spireites. Firstly, Mike Fondop saw his low shot saved by the feet of David Gregory.
The second chance came when Denton connected with David Buchanan’s cross but his header was the wrong side of the post.
Like the first half, chances were at a premium at the start of the second period. However, the Spireites took the lead on the hour mark; Denton headed it down to Tyson who turned and blasted the ball into the top corner on the half-volley.
The away side almost replied with an equaliser six minutes later. Adam Mekki ran onto a Frankie Sutherland corner and thumped the ball just wide of the goal.
Tyson almost grabbed his second of the game but was denied again by the feet of Gregory. The striker ran on to Denton’s flick-on but his effort was saved.
Just seven minutes later, Tyson did have his second. The substitute latched onto Buchanan’s corner and nodded home from close-range.
It soon became even better for the on-loan Notts County striker. He ran through on goal and slotted home past Gregory to send the home fans wild.
As the game went into added time, the Spireites scored their fourth. Smith cut the ball back across goal for Curtis Weston to calmly pass the ball past Gregory.
