After the Spireites fell to a 4-0 defeat at Sutton United on Saturday, manager John Sheridan put forward how disappointed he was with how his side performed.

“I thought we started the game alright,” he said to Spireites Digital.

“It was a bad, bad performance.

“One of the things we did last week was that we were solid at the back and nullified the opposition.

“I thought last week was going to be a turning point but this result couldn’t be any worse for us.

“We can’t keep performing and playing like that.

“There wasn’t a lot between us in the first half and we’ve had one or two opportunities ourselves.

“A lot of the time in games we are playing catch up.”

Laurence Maguire wasn’t involved in the squad on Saturday, however, the manager explained that his absence was due to illness.

“He’s got a bit of a bug in his chest area,” claimed Sheridan.

“I think he’s out for about ten days.

“It’s just a virus so we’ve got to be careful and make sure he’s alright.”

Gevaro started to make his Chesterfield debut against Sutton after moving on loan from Oldham Athletic.

The boss stated that the winger showed glimpses of what he can do during the defeat, by saying: “He did well first half.

“It was a difficult game and I don’t think he let himself down.

“Hopefully he gets settled in because he’s a good player and he showed little bits today.”

The Spireites will now look to get back to winning ways when they head to Hartlepool on Tuesday night.
