The youth team drew 1-1 at Grimsby Town on Saturday.
Neil Cluxton took charge of a young squad which included four Under 16s. One of the quartet, George Wilkinson, was in the starting line-up and impressed in central defence.
After a goal-less first 45 mnutes, the young Spireites took the lead through Chad Gibson, who found the net with a cross-cum-shot.
The hosts had a few half-chances before equalising from the penalty spot with around a quarter-of-an hour to go.
Chesterfield had a couple of good chances to snatch victory in the closing stages.
Mitch Clogg produced an impressive finish but his effort was ruled to be just off-side and then substitute Nathan Moss forced a great save from close range.
Providing his post-match verdict, coach Cluxton said: “It was a good performance considering we lost 3-0 at Grimsby two weeks ago. It was a vastly improved display and I thought that a draw was a fair result."
