The Spireites exited the FA Cup at the hands of Wrexham on Tuesday night, however, when speaking after the replay, John Sheridan explained that he was pleased with how his side performed on the night.
“I thought the performance was very good, especially in the second half,” he said to Spireites Digital.
“I thought it was the best we have played in a long, long time.
“Even in the first half, I was comfortable in the way we dealt with them.
“With the goal, a couple of people have made the wrong decisions and it’s ended up costing us.
“I must say the way we came out in the second half, I think we should have won the game in the end.
“I can’t fault the performance.
“I was very pleased with the way we played, it’s just a shame we’re not in the next round.”
Sam Wedgbury wasn’t included in the matchday squad after being forced off on Saturday with an injury.
The Chesterfield boss gave an injury update on the midfielder, by stating: “It’ll be a month out.
“He’s got a bit of a tear in his calf and our physio will be dealing with that.
“But we’ve got a lot of players coming back and are available.”
The Spireites are back in National League action on Saturday when they host local rivals Notts County.
Sheridan claimed that he and the team will take positives from their second-half performance as they look ahead to Saturday’s big game.
“There is a lot of positives from the game tonight,” put forward Sheridan.
“It’s probably the best we have played in the three games.
“We’ve lost but we can take a lot of good things from the game.
“That’s the way we want to play and it’s the way we should be playing.
“We looked a really good team I felt in the second half.”
