Chesterfield suffered a 2-1 defeat to Eastleigh at the Proact on Saturday despite Tom Denton giving them an early lead.
John Sheridan named an unchanged starting eleven after last weekend’s 2-1 victory against Aldershot Town.
The Spireites threatened early on as Joe Rowley won a corner on the far side. Gevaro curled the corner left-footed to Denton at the far post but the striker headed the ball into the turf and it bounced over Max Stryjek’s crossbar.
The hosts took the lead in the 16th minute after some tricky footwork from Gevaro down the left-hand side which allowed him time to cross. His clipped ball in was perfect for Denton to head home at the back post.
The away side tried to respond quickly as the ball fell to Jack Payne around 20 yards from goal, however, his strike was straight at Chesterfield stopper Shwan Jalal.
Chesterfield were unfortunate not to double their lead when a loose ball came to Denton in the box, he tried to volley at goal but miss-hit his effort and Will Evans poked home with a follow-up shot.
Tyrone Barnett found himself with space to shoot after a lofted ball forward down the left. The striker took the ball down on his chest and struck his half volley well but Jalal was equal to it.
With ten minutes left of the first half, Denton was causing problems again as he cushioned the ball down from Liam Mandeville’s cross. Gevaro was the man to latch onto it but volleyed narrowly wide.
The Spireites couldn’t make it to the interval with a goal lead as Barnett flicked on a long throw past Jalal and into the far corner of the net (45).
Just a couple of minutes into the second half, Scott Boden raced onto a through ball and was one on one with Stryjek. However, Eastleigh defender Rob Atkinson managed to make a good recovering tackle before the striker could pull the trigger.
Marcus Barnes pounced on a loose ball in the area, he turned and slotted his left-footed shot into the far corner to give the visitors the lead (55).
Denton rose highest to get on the end of another cross, this time from Boden but the forward could only direct his header at the Eastleigh keeper.
Just a few moments later it was the Spireites goalkeeper who was called into action after Cavaghn Miley let fly from distance which Jalal had to tip around the post.
Barnett looked to cause problems for the Spireites defence again as he let fly from the right-hand side but dragged the strike past the left post.
With around ten minutes to go, substitute Mike Fondop rose highest to meet a Josef Yarney’s cross but he could only glance his header wide of the mark.
The home side had one last chance to equalise in the final few minutes when Anthony Spyrou was brought down just outside the box. Mandeville worked the free-kick to Fondop inside the area but he side-footed into the side-netting.
