League sponsors Vanarama hope you will get involved as MANarama makes a very big return!
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly...
It’s been a long time coming but Chesterfield have finally registered their first win of the season – with a second quick to follow. Other results won’t stay in the memory long, September was all about getting on the board.
What about the others in September?
One saving grace is that the Spireites aren’t the only fancied side to start slowly. Wrexham sit just above the bottom four while AFC Fylde, Eastleigh and Harrogate aren’t in top gear – in fact, Solihull Moors are the only of last season’s top seven to occupy a place in the top half at this stage.
The high point?
You could hear the sigh of relief at the Proact Stadium from the other side of Sheffield! Scott Boden struck the decisive blow against Torquay United at the 11th time of asking.
Scott Boden has been his usual productive self while new signing and partner upfront Mike Fondop has been a revelation since joining from Wrexham.
Who’s blazing a trail?
The Golden Boot race is almost as exciting as the push for promotion early on. Kabongo Tshimanaga leads the way after bagging six in September – eight in total. One behind are Michael Cheek, Inih Effiong, Jamie Reid and Scott Quigley. Spireites Boden and Fondop-Talum aren’t far off with six and five respectively.
From the dug-out….
John Sheridan was a relieved man after their first win. ““It’s a massive relief, it’s not a run that I expected us to be on and it’s not something I like to talk about, so I’m just pleased to get it out of the way,” he said. “We’ve got to believe in ourselves.”
How do things compare to last September?
Loads better! Last year, the Spireites didn’t register a single win in the month of September and only scored three goals in seven outings. Four defeats and three draws mean things are much better 12 months on.
What does October look like?
With three home games, Sheridan could be looking for a spark to continue their decent run in their last few games. Eastleigh are first up in Derbyshire while the small matter of a derby against Notts County on BT Sport before Yeovil are in town three days later.
