After Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Aldershot Town, John Sheridan spoke to Spireites Digital and stated that it was a much-improved display from his side after a disappointing result on Tuesday night.
“I think the first half was a good performance,” he said.
“It’s a shame we conceded late on in the first half.
“We were very comfortable and the shape of the team was good.
“We probably should have believed in ourselves a little bit more because I think we controlled the game in the first half.
“Again we’ve switched off for the penalty and it’s a shame we go in 1-0 down.
“We put ourselves in difficulty by making the wrong decisions on the football pitch.
“Luckily we got the break at the end, it was a great ball in.”
Matt Tootle made his debut at Aldershot after signing a season-long loan with the Spireites from Notts County.
Sheridan explained that the right-back is a player that will improve the quality of his squad, by saying: “He knows the role.
“He’s a natural right-back and met up with the rest of the squad this morning.
“Once he gets a week with us he’ll be a player with good experience and hopefully he’ll do well whilst he’s here.”
Centre back Anthony Gerrard returned to the starting XI after a spell on the sidelines and the Chesterfield manager was very positive when asked about the Liverpudlian’s performance.
“He was our best player,” stated the boss.
“He reads the game.
“He heads the ball properly and kicks the ball properly.
“He plays with his head more than anything else and that’s why he looked comfortable.
“He’s an excellent player and I thought he was excellent today.”
Bromley are next up for Chesterfield next weekend and the manager claimed that he’ll take heart from how the players got themselves level on two occasions.
“We need battling performances,” put forward Sheridan.
“We need to do better on the ball which we do in certain points in the game but we need to do it more consistently.
“We need people to battle because of the way we are.”
