A late Joe Rowley equaliser claimed a point for the Spireites at Bromley, in a game that finished 3-3 on Tuesday night.
John Sheridan made four changes to the side that faced Eastleigh on Saturday, with Jerome Binnom-Williams, Lee Shaw, Rowley and Marc-Antoine Fortune all coming into the starting eleven.
The visitors were first to have a shot at goal in the second minute. Rowley received the ball just outside the Bromley penalty area, but his curled effort dipped narrowly over David Gregory’s crossbar.
Fortune brought a save out of Gregory just a few minutes later when a Josef Yarney throw found him in space on the right-hand side of the area. The experienced striker turned and let fly with a right-footed effort, but the Bromley keeper got down well to keep it out.
The Spireites threatened again as a Yarney cross was floated into the box from the right. Fortune chested the ball down to Shaw, whose strike was well-hit but Gregory made a smart save to his left.
The home side started to grow into the game and Richard Brindley went close to opening the scoring 13 minutes in. A dangerous ball in was played across the Chesterfield goal to Brindley at the back post, however, Haydn Hollis was there to clear the shot off the line.
Bromley were on the front foot once again and gave Shwan Jalal something to think about when Frankie Raymond connected sweetly with an effort from 20 yards out. The Bromley midfielder was unlucky to see his strike clip the top of the crossbar.
The Spireites took the lead just before the break when Binnom-Williams met a cross that came in from the right. He rose highest to head past Gregory and into the right corner of the net to score his first goal for Chesterfield (44).
With just over ten minutes of the second half gone, the hosts managed to get back on level terms. Roger Johnson reacted first to an effort coming back off the crossbar to head past Jalal (56).
Only four minutes later Bromley took the lead. JJ Hooper collected the ball just inside the Chesterfield half and had space to run to the edge of the box. The Bromley forward struck his effort from distance well and it flew into the net (60).
The away side nearly responded immediately when a loose ball fell to Scott Boden inside the penalty area. The Chesterfield forward flicked an effort towards goal but it looped onto the top of the crossbar and over.
With eight minutes to go, the Spireites were able to find a leveller when Hollis’ shot was deflected. Boden was on his toes to poke it home at the back post (82).
Hooper scored his second of the night to put the hosts back into the lead, curling a long-range effort into the right corner (87).
Bromley looked certain to claim all three points as the game entered injury time, but the Spireites responded again. Kyel Reid crossed to fellow substitute Tom Denton who headed the ball down to Rowley. The young midfielder kept his composure and placed his right-footed strike into the top right corner (90+1).
