Chesterfield fell to a 3-2 defeat against Eastleigh at the Proact on Saturday, despite taking the lead twice through Haydn Hollis and Scott Boden.
John Sheridan named an unchanged starting line-up following the 3-1 victory away at Braintree on Tuesday night.
Sheridan’s side made a positive start to the game. Ellis Chapman sparked a chance down the left when a bit of trickery allowed Chapman to deliver a cross to the far post where Tom Denton came inches away from latching on to it.
The away side came close 30 minutes in when Paul McCallum flicked the ball through to Chris Zebroski who powered past Hollis but eventually dragged his shot wide.
The Spireites took the lead in the 33rd minute when Chapman lofted a free kick to the back post that found Will Evans who headed across for Hollis to tap in from close range.
Eastleigh nearly equalised shortly after from a Mark Yeates corner. Yeates swung a good ball into the penalty box finding McCallum whose headed effort drifted wide.
The visitors found the equaliser and it was their top goalscorer McCallum who got it. Zebroski worked a cross into McCallum who hammered his header into the ground and beyond the diving Shwan Jalal (44’).
Just like the first half, Chesterfield were on top from the outset in the second. The Spireites sprung into life when Chapman nicked the ball away from the Eastleigh defenders and whipped in a brilliant ball to the far post. Boden was stood ready to pounce and finished calmly to give Chesterfield the lead in the 49th minute.
Eastleigh equalised again when a corner drifted out to Joshua Hare whose header found Andrew Boyce who jumped highest and headed into the back of the net in the 60th minute.
It was the visitors who then went on to take lead in the 83rd minute. Joe Jones carried the ball out from defence and ran all the way to the edge of the area when he released a powerful shot which left Jalal with no chance as it flew into the left corner.
Chesterfield searched for a way back into the game but were unsuccessful as they fell to a 3-2 defeat.
