New signing Anthony Gerrard has spoken of his delight at joining the Spireites.
In an interview with Spireites Digital, Gerrard said: "I’m relieved. I was checking my phone every half an hour and I'm just glad it’s over the line now."
Having played under John Sheridan at Oldham Athletic and Carlisle United, the manager was a key factor in his decision to sign, together with the size of the club.
“He was a major influence for me," said Gerrard. “It’s a massive club, so hopefully we can get it back to where it belongs, in the Football League. I wouldn’t have gone to the National League if promotion wasn’t the goal.
“Hopefully it will be a one-season stay in the National League and hopefully we can get back into the Football League and back into League Two.”
The 33-year-old tells Chesterfield fans to expect passion and commitment from him. "Now I’m wearing the Chesterfield shirt, you can expect 100 per cent passion and commitment every day, and every Saturday," he said.
