After the Spireites suffered defeat for the first time in pre-season to Rotherham United at the Proact, manager John Sheridan began his post-match interview by claiming that there are plenty of positives he will take from the game.
“I thought there were some good things in the game for us,” said Sheridan.
“We were playing against a team who were in the Championship so it was a good runout for us.
“It’s about fitness levels and just getting a bit of shape to us.
“I thought it was a really good workout.
“There are still things we have to work on and make ourselves better but overall I was pleased with the runout.”
Chesterfield have brought in seven first-team players so far this summer, however, after Saturday’s game, Sheridan expressed his desire in wanting to bring a pair of forwards in before the start of the new season.
“I need two strikers,” he stated.
“I’m quite comfortable everywhere else.
“In the attacking areas, I would like to get someone in, whether it’s a wide man or a centre forward.
“I do know what I need and what I’m trying to get.
“We’ve identified players it’s just trying to get them and for the right deal for us.
“I’m sure we’ll have two in before we play Burton.”
The Spireites are back at the Proact for their next pre-season friendly when they host Sheffield United on Tuesday night.
The manager explained that he has told his players that they all have the opportunity to be in the starting eleven come the first fixture of the season against Dover, by saying: “Leading up to the Burton game I’m going to be looking at my team.
“We’ve told everyone to think that they’ve got a chance to play in the team.”
