The Spireites travel to Matlock Town tonight for their third pre-season friendly of the summer, kick-off 7:30 pm.

Last night’s match at Hallam FC ended in a 2-1 victory and John Sheridan will be hoping for another positive result tonight.

Matlock Town FC

Nickname: The Gladiators
Stadium: Proctor Cars Stadium, Matlock, DE4 3AR

Capacity: 2,400

The club was established in 1878 as Matlock Football Club. They began entering the FA Cup in 1885 but did not win a match in the competition until 1890. In that year the club were founder members of the Derbyshire Senior League and went on to win the title in the league's inaugural season.

The club’s biggest achievement came in 1975 when they went to Wembley Stadium to face Scarborough in the FA Trophy final. They came out on top to lift the FA Trophy as they thrashed Scarborough 4-0. The Matlock team on that day included three brothers, and to this day Matlock Town are the only team to field three brothers in a Wembley final.

The Gladiators currently play in the Northern Premier League, which is the seventh tier of English football. They finished 15th in this league last season, avoiding relegation fairly comfortably.

Record attendance: 5,123 vs Burton Albion, FA Trophy semi-final, 1975
