On-trial pair Anthony Spyrou and Jake Bennett scored as the Spireites came from behind to win 2-1 at Matlock Town in their third pre-season fixture.
Alongside Spyrou and Bennett, fellow trialists Dan Wallis and Sam Scivens were named in the starting line-up. There was another run-out for Sam Wedgbury following his return from injury with Lee Shaw, Charlie Wakefield and Jack McKay also featuring. There was a late change to the Chesterfield line-up with Jared Wild replacing Jack Holmes.
It took the hosts less than three minutes to open the scoring with Pieteu Crouz finding the net with a shot from inside the area.
Chesterfield threatened when Scrivens found McKay, who failed to direct the ball on target.
Scrivens then had a shot deflected wide before Chesterfield equalised from the resulting corner.
Spyrou (14) met Jay Sheridan’s corner with a near post header into the far corner of the net.
Sheridan fired in a free-kick which was on target but Jon Stewart made a comfortable save.
A good ball forward from Sheridan found Spyrou who advanced into the area before just failing to pull the ball back to McKay.
Matlock’s Luke Hinsley fired over before McKay threatened to capitalise on a defensive error, firing in a shot which was saved by Stewart at his near post.
Matlock went close to regaining the lead just after the half-hour mark when Louis Wardle's shot came back off Dan Wallis' left-hand post.
Charlie Wakefield made a good interception on the edge of the area to cut short a Matlock attack.
Bennett (37) put Chesterfield ahead with a composed finished following McKay's lay-off.
In the latter stages of the half, Scrivens slipped the ball through to Spyrou, but a defender was on hand to clear.
Shortly after the re-start, only a fine save from Stewart denied McKay, who headed goalwards from Scrivens' cross.
A good move from Matlock ended with Andrew Wright firing in a shot which was deflected wide.
Just after the hour-mark, Spyrou made a strong run before playing the ball into the danger area where it was hacked clear.
Wallis protected Chesterfield’s lead, making a good save to keep out a Ben Gordon effort and then Wright put a free-kick wide.
There was a double substitution for Chesterfield in the 72nd minute with Levi Amantchi and Regan Hutchinson coming on for McKay and Spyrou.
Wallis made a fine save to keep out Doran's angled effort and Crouz was unlucky not to add to his opening goal, hitting the bar.
In the 81st minute, the Spireites made another change with Luke Rawson taking over from Shaw.
