Pre-season fixtures

With the first pre-season friendly just over a week away, we take a look at Chesterfield’s opponents in the build-up to the big kick-off.

Local non-league side Staveley Miners Welfare provide the opposition at their Inkersall Road ground on Saturday, July 13 (3pm). Staveley currently play in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division, which is the ninth tier of English football. 

Two days later on July 15 (7.30pm), the Spireites make the trip to Hallam FC. They are located on the outskirts of Sheffield and play their games at Sandygate, which is 11.6 miles away from the Proact.

The next day, Tuesday, July 16 (7.30pm), Matlock Town, will be the next destination for Chesterfield. They play in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, which is the seventh tier of English football. The game will be played at the Proctor Cars Arena, which is located 11.5 miles away from the Proact. 

The Spireites will then have a four-day break before hosting Rotherham United on Saturday, July 20 (3pm). Rotherham play in League One after being relegated last season. 

On July 23, Chesterfield face Premier League opposition, in the shape of newly-promoted local rivals Sheffield United. They were promoted after finishing second in the Championship last season. The game, which is being played at the Proact, kicks off at 7.30pm.

The next day, the Spireites are facing different Sheffield opposition, as they make their way to the oldest football team in the world, Sheffield FC. Founded in 1857, they play in the Northern Premier League Division One East, which is the eighth tier of English football. The game will be held at Sheffield FC’s ground, called the BT Local Business Stadium, located just south of Sheffield, in Dronfield - just over six miles from the Proact.

The Spireites' final pre-season friendly will be against Staffordshire side Burton Albion on July 27. This game at the Proact Stadium will kick-off at 3pm. Burton play in League One and they play their games at the Pirelli Stadium. Burton is a town located just outside of Derbyshire - 40.3 miles from the Proact.
