The Spireites were 2-0 winners at Barnet on Tuesday night, thanks to goals from Charlie Carter and Alex Kiwomya.
John Sheridan made three changes to the side that faced Harrogate Town on Saturday. Will Evans recovered from injury to start, along with Carter and Tom Denton who also started after being on the bench last weekend.
The home side were first to create an opportunity with around ten minutes on the clock. A ball in from the right eventually fell to Wesley Fonguck just outside the area. He managed to get a shot off, but it was straight at Shwan Jalal in the Chesterfield goal.
It was the Spireites who broke the deadlock in the 15th minute. A cross to the back post was met by Scott Boden, who played a first-time cross to Denton. The striker aimed a header at goal which came off the crossbar, but Carter was on his toes to finish off the rebound.
Shaquile Coulthirst had a couple of half chances just after the 20-minute mark. He turned on the edge of the box to shoot at goal but dragged it wide, and headed over from an Elliot Johnson cross just a few minutes later.
After being put under some pressure from Barnet, the away side created an opportunity with around ten minutes of the first half remaining. Ellis Chapman found Denton with a left-footed cross, but the striker’s header narrowly went over Mark Cousins’ crossbar.
The home side had an opportunity to level the scores when a long-range effort was saved well by Jalal. The ball popped out of the keeper’s hands, but luckily for the Spireites, Jalal was quick to recover and grab the ball with Simeon Akinola sliding in.
Barnet began the second half brightly and a tempting cross from the left found the head of Dan Sweeney, but the defender couldn’t direct his effort goalwards.
Boden looked threatening for Chesterfield as he ran at the heart of the Barnet defence and let fly with a right-footed strike. He struck his effort well, but dragged it just wide of Cousins’ far post.
The visitors had two chances at around the hour mark. The first of those was created by Chapman who turned past his marker, but saw his shot go inches wide of the left post. Boden was next to have an attempt at goal, although he could only head over from a Chapman cross.
Jalal was brought into action after Sweeney met a cross which came in from the left-hand side. The Barnet man managed to get his header on target, but the Chesterfield keeper tipped it over the crossbar.
Just a few moments later it was the away sides turn to have a shot on target. Substitute Jerome Binnom-Williams broke down the left and unleashed a left-footed effort towards goal, but the Barnet keeper reacted well to keep it out.
The away side sealed the win in the 81st minute when Kiwomya flicked the ball over Sweeney with his head and rounded the goalkeeper. The substitute kept his cool and rolled the ball home to make it three away wins in a row for the Spireites.
