After the Spireites’ 1-0 away victory at AFC Fylde, John Sheridan began his post-match interview by stating how pleased he was with how his side played against a strong Fylde team.
“It was a great effort from the players. Every game we go into; we know the importance of picking three points up,” he said to Spireites Digital.
“I thought we played well in patches, and then it got tense towards the end.
“We were playing against a really good team today who are going really well.
“They are a good footballing side and score goals, so when we had to defend we defended really well.
“It’s another clean sheet and the lads have responded really well to me coming in.”
The Chesterfield boss named an unchanged starting eleven from the side that ran out 1-0 winners at home to FC Halifax Town.
Sheridan also chose to keep the same formation as the one used in the Halifax game, and after the Fylde victory he pointed out how crucial it is to have a settled first eleven.
“We’ve just got to get a bit of balance and a bit of know-how within our play,” Sheridan explained.
“It’s not just about the eleven. We’ve got a lot of players that want to be playing at the club.
“Me as a manager when you win the game everyone thinks you are doing the right thing.
“It’s important if we can get a settled side that will help us even more.”
Looking ahead to the Spireites’ next fixture at home to Harrogate Town, Sheridan explained that Charlie Carter and Laurence Maguire might need more time to get up to match fitness.
The manager also pointed out how positive other members of the squad have been in training, even though they haven’t been selected in the matchday squad.
“They both need a game or two to get up to match tempo,” he said.
“They are two good players who are coming back, and I’ve left out people who haven’t even travelled today.
“It’s very difficult for me because they are all working their socks off to try and get in the team.
“We want them all fit and available.”
