Early goals from Mike Fondop and Jack McKay weren’t enough for the Spireites as they were forced to share the spoils after a 2-2 draw with Solihull Moors.
John Sheridan made two changes to the side that ran out 3-0 winners away at Torquay last weekend with Josef Yarney and Will Evans replacing Robbie Weir and Anthony Gerrard.
Chesterfield got off to the perfect start with a goal within 12 seconds. McKay found Fondop and the striker fired a low shot past Ryan Boot and into the bottom right corner.
Solihull came close to equalising just three minutes later. Jamey Osbourne let fly from the edge of the box and his deflected effort forced Shwan Jalal into making a fingertip save.
The away side continued to threaten and almost found a goal through Nathan Blissett. Paul McCallum played the striker through on goal but Jalal's outstretched leg denied an equaliser.
Soon after though, the Spireites doubled their lead. Fondop turned provider for McKay who calmly rifled the ball past Boot into the top left-hand corner (17).
The Moors pulled a goal back just before half time when James Ball's shot deflected past Jalal into the corner of the net (44).
Chesterfield made a substitution at half time with Joe Rowley replacing the scorer of the second goal, McKay.
On the hour mark, Laurence Maguire was stretchered off after going down off the ball with an injury. Jonathan Smith came on in his place.
The first big chance of the second half came with 20 minutes to go with Fondop looking to curl the ball into the corner with his left-foot – Boot parried the ball away from goal.
Gevaro was unlucky not to extend the lead when he headed Josef Yarney's cross just over the bar.
In the fifth minute of added time, the visitors got back on level terms. Lee Vaughan's floated cross was headed home from close-range by Danny Wright (90+5).
Both sides tried to find a winner but neither side could find the breakthrough and the points were shared on Boxing Day.
