The Spireites take on Yeovil Town in a rearranged fixture at the Proact this evening (7.45pm). The two clubs have previously met on ten occasions in the league and here we take a look at five of those matches...
1. Yeovil Town 1-3 Chesterfield – (29/8/2005)
Chesterfield’s first trip to Huish Park proved to be an eventful outing as Roy McFarland’s side came out on top in the early-season game.
The home side took the lead in the 36th minute through Luciano Alvares’ close-range finish. The lead didn’t last long though as Paul Hall levelled just before the break.
Half-time substitute Adam Smith put the Spireites 2-1 up in the 53rd minute from a corner and added to his tally with 15 minutes to go to put the game beyond doubt.
Barry Roche gave a way a late penalty but redeemed himself by saving Pablo Bastianni’s spot-kick. Both teams finished the season with 56 points, with the side from Somerset finishing one place higher in 15th.
2. Yeovil Town 3-2 Chesterfield – (28/4/2012)
Not all trips to Huish Park saw Chesterfield fans leave with smiling faces as this Yeovil win relegated the Blues back to League Two.
Jordan Bowery opened the scoring by converting Mark Randall’s cross into the back of the net. The Glovers hit back through Dominic Blizzard with his 26th minute strike.
With 20 minutes to go, Danny Whitaker restored the Spireites lead with a deflected effort before Kieran Agard equalised once more for Yeovil.
The home side took the lead for the first time in 80th minute when Andy Williams saw his powerful 25-yard strike fly past Tommy Lee to relegate John Sheridan’s side after just one season in League One.
3. Yeovil Town 2-3 Chesterfield – (3/4/2015)
With the 2014/15 season coming to the end, the two sides were fighting two different battles. James Hayter slotted the ball home to give Yeovil an 18th minute lead as they looked to keep their slim survival hopes alive.
Sam Foley doubled the lead 12 minutes into the second half with a similar finish, but Sam Hird headed home from Gary Roberts’ free-kick to halve the deficit just two minutes later.
Jay O’Shea soon equalised with a screamer from the edge of the box. The Irish midfielder scored the winner with just over 20 minutes to go with an audacious overhead kick.
This left the Spireites in sixth place whilst Yeovil were rooted to the bottom of League One following the game.
4. Chesterfield 2-3 Yeovil Town – (7/8/2018)
The 2017/18 season saw the two sides play out two pulsating fixtures as both outfits looked to avoid relegation.
Yeovil took the lead after just three minutes. A long ball found Olufela Olomana, who rolled a shot past Joe Anyon from the edge of the box. Otis Khan doubled the lead 23 minutes later with his curling effort.
Chesterfield pulled a goal back in the 51st minute when Robbie Weir turned home Chris O’Grady’s cross. Krisitan Dennis produced an equaliser with less than 20 minutes to go when his 25-yard lob nestled in the right-hand side of the net.
However, the Glovers went home with all three points when Sam Surridge’s cross found James Bailey at the back-post to head home a 90th minute winner.
5. Yeovil Town 1-2 Chesterfield – (20/1/2019)
The second fixture of the season provided more injury-time drama as Chesterfield came away from Huish Park with all three points.
Louis Reed opened the scoring with just 24 minutes to go when his perfectly placed free-kick found a way past Artur Krysiak and into the bottom left-hand corner.
In the 80th minute, the Glovers equalised through Lewis Wing. The midfielder let fly from distance and saw his effort glide past a helpless Aaron Ramsdale.
However, the away side provided the last laugh when Krisitan Dennis scored a 93rd minute winner. The striker rounded Krysiak and from 30-yards out, rolled the ball into the back of the net to send the Spireites fans wild.
Otis Khan was given his marching orders during the aftermath of the goal and the three points went back to North Derbyshire.
