The youth team went down to a 5-3 defeat at Grimsby Town on Saturday.
Kian Tansley scored a hat-trick of penalties for the Spireites, who conceded two early goals and trailed 4-2 at the break.
Providing his thoughts on the game, John Knapper said: "It was the story of our season - if we'd have taken our chances, we'd have taken something from the game.
"To give credit to the lads, they had a real go at it in the second half. They worked hard and didn't drop their heads.
"We had quite a young side out. George Wilkinson started and we also had three Under-16s on the bench. They all got game time, which is great for their development and all four acquitted themselves really well."
