The Manager: Peter Taylor

Former England international, Peter Taylor is into his second full season with the Daggers who sit just inside the top half of the National League table with seven games played so far.

After appearing over 100 times for Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur, Taylor’s first managerial role was with Southend United in 1993 following his departure as player-manager at Dartford.

Taylor has managed 12 different sides at club level most notably Gillingham (twice), Leicester City, Brighton & Hove Albion, Hull City, Wycombe Wanderers and Kerala Blasters.

In addition to this, Taylor has previously managed at international level including two spells as England U21’s manager, over a year as England U20’s manager and finally 20 matches as Bahrain boss.

Over his 26-year managerial career, Taylor has five promotions on his CV all in the Football League and even has international silverware after winning gold medals in the Pan Arab Games and GCC Games with Bahrain.

In his first season with Dagenham & Redbridge, Taylor’s side finished in the bottom half of the National League, just three points and four places behind the Spireites.

A win at the Proact Stadium for the Spireites would put them just three points behind the Daggers in the table.

One to watch: Angelo Balanta

Dagenham & Redbridge’s top scorer this season, Angelo Balanta has scored three goals so far and given National League defenders a tough time, using his quick feet and flair to his advantage.

The Colombia-born attacker started his career in London with Queens Park Rangers but only played 25 league games in seven years.

During his time with the R’s, Balanta had a loan spell with Wycombe Wanderers in the 2008/09 season, before having three loan spells in three years with MK Dons and a short loan in 2013 with Yeovil Town.

After being released by QPR in 2014, Balanta signed for Bristol Rovers in the Conference but despite helping the Pirates achieve promotion, he opted to move to Carlisle United.

The 29-year-old moved to Boreham Wood in 2016 where he had just over two successful years before signing for the Daggers in October 2018.

Balanta bagged seven goals in 25 appearances in all competitions last season for Dagenham and has started the 2019/20 campaign in great form so far.

Head to head:

The Spireites have come up against Saturday's opponents a total of twelve times, winning four, losing three, and drawing five. The last time the two sides met was at the Proact Stadium in March 2019, when the Spireites came away 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Jonathan Smith and Scott Boden.

From the dugout:

John Sheridan: “It’s important that I put a team out where everyone is comfortable in what we’re doing and where we want to go and that’s something we’ve been trying to do for the past couple of days.”
