An open letter to supporters from the club’s first Fan of the Year, Zoe Edge...
Well, I’m not going to beat about the bush and I’m not making any excuses, we’ve had a terrible start to the season and everyone’s fed-up.
I know Shez well enough to know that not winning will be driving him mad. I know he’s stubborn enough to stick at it 'til he gets it right and I’m stubborn enough to stick with him!
The most important people now are the players. I don’t want anybody to feel sorry for them, but I want everyone to help to lift them to get their confidence back.
In any sport, confidence is the difference between winning and losing. When you’re winning, everything goes right, everybody thinks you’re brilliant, it’s easy. The longer you don’t win, nothing goes right, the more you try, the worse things get. People have a go at you, the pressure builds up, the stress and anxiety starts, your self-belief goes, the panicking starts, everything goes haywire and to feel like that is horrible.
The reason I can say all that is because I went through everything in my sports career; this is a very difficult time for these lads. Even when these lads go out to warm up, I can feel the pressure they’re under. It’s like they’ve got four-and-a-half years of pressure on them and some of them were still at school four-and-a-half years ago!
Get behind these lads, support and encourage them like you would your mates, your brothers, your sons or your grandsons. Let’s show everyone that Spireites stick together and we’ll support our lads whatever! Spireites 'til we die!
