Team News:

John Sheridan will be without Laurence Maguire after his red card on Saturday against Boreham Wood.

Tom Denton, Anthony Gerrard and Anthony Spyrou are all still unavailable, but are nearing full fitness.

The manager: Alan Dowson

This will be Dowson’s second season in charge of the Cards after being appointed in May 2018.
After making 55 appearances in the Football League for the likes of Millwall, Fulham, Bradford City and Darlington between 1988 and 1993, Dowson spent 13 years playing in non-league for Slough Town, Gateshead and Walton & Hersham.

His first managerial job was in 2004 when he was appointed player/manager of Walton & Hersham, finishing in second place in his debut season, However, after his resignation in 2007, he joined Kingstonian where, in his second full season in charge, he guided them to the Isthmian Division One South title therefore seeing them promoted to the Premier Division.

After several years of finishing mid-table in the Premier Division, he announced his resignation to spend time away from football with his family and friends.

In 2014, Dowson made his managerial return after being appointed at Hampton and Richmond Borough. After several mid-table finishes in the Isthmian Premier Division, he led them to the league title in the 2015/16 season, losing only seven fixtures.

He stayed at the Beavers until 2018, when he moved to Woking and he has been their ever since. Dowson led them to promotion from the National League South last season via the play-offs. Woking sit fifth in the table after three games.

One to watch: Shaun Donnellan

After scoring in the last game against Harrogate Town, the midfielder will be keen to keep up his goalscoring form.

Donnellan started his senior career in 2015 with former Premier League side West Bromwich Albion. However, he didn’t make an appearance for the Baggies as he was sent on loan to the likes of Worchester City, Stevenage, Dagenham & Redbridge and Walsall until 2018, before joining Yeovil Town on an 18-month deal.

The move to Yeovil didn’t work out as in January his contract was terminated by mutual consent. Donnellan then had a brief spell at National League side Maidstone United. After impressing Alan Dowson in a pre-season friendly, he signed permanently for Woking in July.

Donnellan has had international success at youth level, making his first appearance for Republic of Ireland U21s in a UEFA U21 European Championship qualifier against Kosovo with a 1-0 win. He has since gone on to make eight appearances, scoring one goal.

Head to head:

The Spireites and the Cards have never played each other before.

From the dugout:

John Sheridan said: "They’re another team that have started the season well. They were winning games on a regular basis last year to get promoted. I’m expecting a tough game. They’ll be confident and they will look forward to coming here.

"I think it’s important to try and get three points. I want us to play football, I want us to be attractive and I want us to be good to watch. At the end of the day, the most important thing is coming back with three points.”
