Two quick-fire goals in the second half saw Chesterfield come out with an impressive 2-0 victory over Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday.
John Sheridan made just one change from the side that beat Sutton United last weekend, with Curtis Weston coming into the starting eleven.
The game got off to a rather conservative start and it was the visitors who had the first chance of the game. Some clever interplay on the edge of the Chesterfield box set Liam Gordon through on goal but Shwan Jalal pushed his effort away. Will Wright then tried to test Jalal from range but his effort went straight into the hands of the Chesterfield keeper.
Chesterfield began to work their way into the game as Ellis Chapman hung up a cross towards the back post where Tom Denton was only inches away from the cross but the ball sailed just past him.
The Dagenham back five looked content to sit in and absorb any Chesterfield pressure, a job which they had performed well in the first half, limiting Chesterfield to very few clear sights of goal.
Sheridan’s side made a fast start to the second half and broke the Dagenham resistance within three minutes of the restart through a superb long-range effort from Jonathan Smith. Smith kept his shot low and it arrowed past Elliot Justham into bottom left corner (47).
Chesterfield’s premier marksman then made it two just minutes later as Scott Boden latched onto Joe Rowley’s ball before hammering home his seventh in his last six games, having now scored in six consecutive matches (50).
Chesterfield looked like scoring every time they came forward and the opposition were powerless to resist in the opening exchanges of the second half. The high intensity start to the half eventually simmered down from Sheridan’s side but by that point, the damage had already been done.
Lee Shaw then should have added a third for Chesterfield as Denton’s flick-on set the substitute through on goal but his seemingly goal-bound effort was blocked well by the Dagenham defence.
The Spireites were able to quite comfortably see out the rest of the game to make it three consecutive league victories.
