Ahead of Saturday’s home match against Sutton United, John Sheridan spoke of the importance of his team performing well at home.
Since Sheridan’s arrival, Chesterfield’s away form has been a major factor in the positive upturn in results, but the Spireites boss knows how vital it is to show the same form at home.
He said: “I think we need to be dominating games at home. We need to be really attack-minded and take the game to the opposition more. We need that belief that we’re going to score goals.
“Whether that means me playing some different formations or picking different personnel, I have to look at things differently on why we’re winning away and not at home. I’ll have to make those decisions and hopefully that will help the team.
“When we’re at home, the fans expect us to win and so do I. I just want them to go out with that belief that they are going to win at home. As a manager I want them to be expressing themselves and when we’re at home I expect us to get at teams and create chances. I want us to be attractive and play football, it’s one of the best pitches in the league and the best stadium.”
Sutton, despite showing a bit of poor form recently, are still in the hunt for the play-offs and looking for promotion. Sheridan is aware that Sutton will come to the Proact only looking for the three points.
“They’re a team that are in and around the play-offs, so we’ve got to be wary," he said. "They’re going to come here and try to win the game.
“They’ll come in thinking if they get the three points they could make the play-offs. They’re doing something right, they’ve been consistent in the way they play.
“I just want to try and do what we’ve been doing away, we need to start winning games at home. For the support and what we’ve had throughout the season, we need to try and have a really strong finish if we can at home.”
Injury-wise, Sheridan told the media that Jerome Binnom-Williams will not be available for Saturday.
Apart from that, the Spireites boss confirmed the squad is ready for the weekend match, commenting: “'JB' (Binnom-Williams) is struggling with his knee and won’t be fit for Saturday but other than that, the rest of the squad has come through and I’ve got lots of players to pick a team from.”
