John Sheridan heaped further praise on Joe Rowley following the young midfielder's stoppage-time equaliser at Bromley last night.

Rowley, who was making his first start since December 29, struck at the death to secure a point for the Spireites in a 3-3 draw.

After the match, Sheridan described Rowley as Chesterfield's best player on the pitch and said he was "excellent on the ball".

Speaking before last Saturday's game against Eastleigh, Sheridan had words of praise for the 19-year-old, saying:  "I like him as a player. I came here four/five times last season and he was the best player every time I came.

“If we can get points on board and get to what I think will be safe for us, I will give one or two few players an opportunity. I’d like to give young Rowley a chance and have a good look at him.

“He’s still very young and raw, but he’s a player who I really like. I need to tell him what he’s good at, hopefully he'll stick to what he's good at and hopefully he'll be a big player for me this year."

A product of the academy, Rowley made his debut for the Spireites back in March 2017 and has made over 50 appearances since.

Sheridan believes it is vital to manage Rowley correctly. He said: “It’s important I look after him. He’s a young lad who got into the team very early, he’s played in a relegated team last year and he’s been playing in a struggling team this year.

“He’s here, he’s under contract and he’s someone who I want to bring on because I do think there’s a very good player in there.”
