The Opposition

Manager – Gary Waddock

The former Republic of Ireland and Queen’s Park Rangers midfielder returned for his second spell at Aldershot in the summer of 2016, after leaving his role as assistant first-team coach at Barnet.

His first role in management came when he was put in temporary charge at QPR in 2006, however, it was during his first spell at The Shots where he made a name for himself.

Waddock guided them to the National League title in 2008 with a then-record total of 101 points, and a record 31 victories in a season.

He then moved to Wycombe Wanderers in 2009 and led them to promotion to League One during the 2010/11 season. However, they were relegated straight back to League Two, and after a poor run of results, Waddock was relieved of his duties.

Waddock went onto have short spells in various jobs at MK Dons, Oxford United, Portsmouth and Barnet, before heading back to Aldershot for his second spell in charge.

Aldershot currently sit in 21st position in the National League.

One to Watch – Adam McDonnell

The 21-year-old midfielder began his career in his home country of Ireland with Shelbourne, before moving over to England to join Ipswich Town in 2014.

McDonnell only made a few appearances for the ‘Tractorboys’ and was loaned out to Aldershot where he scored four goals in 14 appearances.

Following his release from Ipswich, he moved to The Shots on a permanent deal in January last year and is currently Aldershot’s joint top scorer this campaign with five goals.

Head to Head
The Spireites have played Aldershot nine times, winning four, drawing three and losing two of those matches.

Last time out the Spireites were comprehensive 3-0 winners at the Proact, with a stunning run and strike from Charlie Carter being the pick of the goals.

From the Dugout:

John Sheridan: "I've seen good things in the game last week and I've seen good things in training. They're responding to the way I want to work. It's a quick fix, so we need to hit the ground running.

I want us to be attack-minded, at the same time switched on defensively. We need to create more chances and work the keeper."
