New boss John Sheridan says that he identified areas that need to be worked on during the 1-0 FA trophy victory over Bedford Town.
Speaking after the match, which saw substitute Tom Denton score the only goal of the game a minute from time, Sheridan said: “I’ve seen things why probably they’ve ended up losing games and made themselves vulnerable throughout the season, so we’ll try and work hard on that and make us stronger.
“With no disrespect to the opposition today, if you make those little mistakes you get punished against better opposition. The most important thing is that we get off to a good start, a winning start. A big plus the clean sheet. I don’t care who the opposition is.
“I think we should have scored more goals. Some of our play was good, when we moved the ball quickly, so I’ve seen good signs. I’m just pleased that we've ended up winning the game and one-nil is as good as five-nil.”
Sheridan outlined what he is looking for from his team. He said: “I want us to be brave and creative, but at the same time I want us to be switched on. We’re in a tricky position in the league so we need to do things quickly.
“I’ve only been here a few days. We’ll work again in the week on how I want us to play. Hopefully they’ll get used to the way I want to play.”
The manager admitted that he is actively seeking reinforcements. “I’m trying to bring players in,” he said. “I’m speaking to players and I’m confident and positive that I’ll have a couple in by Aldershot. It will give us a lift in and around the place.”
Sheridan also confirmed that Callum Burton’s spell on loan from Hull City has come to an end. Burton missed the game through suspension with Shwan Jalal taking his place.
