Women at the Game reminder

27 February 2019

A reminder that a Women at the Game event will take place at next week's fixture at home to Eastleigh.

Staged to encourage more females to attend matches, the event will feature admission for just £5 for adults and £1 for concessions for those women taking part. Refreshments will be provided in the HUB.

Associate director Alison Richardson, who has organised the event, explained the thinking behind the initiative in the latest Spireites Live podcast, saying: "Women at the Game is actually a national initiative. It was started by a lady called Jacqui Forster. Jacqui sadly died in 2015 and she left it as her legacy.

"She was very keen on non-league football and football at all levels and it was really important to her that women in particular had a safe and comfortable environment to come and watch football.

"We're very hopeful that Jacqui's widower, Pete Baker, will be attending. That will be a great honour for us to have him here and hopefully we can do him and Jacqui proud."

A number of other VIP guests are also set to attend, including Derbyshire-born Stephanie Hill - who was crowned Miss World Europe in 2017 - and the Chesterfield mayoress, Anne Brittain.

Funds will be raised to support a cause chosen by Stephanie, the funding of a new science lab at her old place of learning - Lady Manners School - and encourage more girls to get involved in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

Places are limited so early booking is essential. Please email alisonrichardson@chesterfield-fc.co.uk to reserve tickets.
