John Sheridan underlined the importance of Chesterfield keeping their momentum going when he spoke to the media ahead of Saturday’s match against Harrogate Town.
The Spireites are still unbeaten in the league since Sheridan’s arrival and he believes that his side can carry on the good form they’ve shown under him so far.
“When you’re on a decent run, the confidence comes itself,” he said. “We’re a hard team to play against at the moment and if we do what we’ve done in the last four games, then we’re going in the right direction.
“We know the importance of getting points and winning games to push ourselves out of the position we are in.
“We know there’s still a long way to go and lots of points to play for. We need a lot of hard work but we’re going the right way and that’s pleasing me.”
The Spireites boss emphasised just how delighted he has been with the team since he’s been back at the club and how the supporters have been a massive help for him and the players.
He said: “I’ve come in and tried to give them a bit of belief. I want them to play with a smile on their faces.
“For me to come in and the players to get ten points out 12 in the league is a massive achievement considering where we were. It was difficult to play in front of the supporters, but they’ve got right behind the team.
“The fans appreciate how hard the lads are going about their work to get results. The way they’ve got behind the team, especially last week, is a massive plus. We need the supporters because it’s been as difficult for them as anyone.”
Saturday's oponents, Harrogate Town, sit ninth in the National League and Sheridan is mindful of the danger they pose.
“They’re another team doing really well; they’re tricky opponents. They’ve had a couple of setbacks with their results but it’s another tough game because they’re having a good season, but I expect us to win when we are playing at home.
"We will go in with the belief that we are going to win and hopefully the players will go in with the same attitude.
“At the same time, we’re aware of what Harrogate may throw at us and their strengths. We’ll give all that information to the players and hopefully they’re switched on.”
Sheridan also confirmed there were no new injury updates, reveaing that Charlie Carter and Laurence Maguire are nearing a return. He added: “They’re doing everything they can and they’re not far off from being involved in the matchday squad.”
