The Spireites recorded their third home win in a row after beating Maidstone United 4-1 at the Proact with Laurence Maguire scoring the pick of the goals.

John Sheridan made six changes to the side that drew 0-0 with Dover Athletic last Saturday. Bradley Barry, Curtis Weston, Joe Rowley, Tom Denton, Scott Boden and Ellis Chapman all made their way back into the starting eleven.

Chapman looked to create the first chance of the game with his mazy run down the left flank. His low cross found Denton, but the striker could not get the ball from under his feet and the Maidstone defence cleared.

The away side’s first effort of the game came in the ninth minute. A teasing cross found the head of Elliott Romain, but the number nine headed over from close-range.

Chesterfield’s first shot almost resulted in Weston’s first goal since September. The midfielder shot wide from the edge of the 18-yard-box.

The Spireites were on top and were unlucky again not to find the net after a quarter of an hour. Laurence Maguire’s header went inches wide of the post after meeting Chapman’s corner.

However, on the 18th minute, the home side finally found the back of the net. Chapman’s corner was cleared out to Barry, who let fly from range and beat Chris Lewington via a deflection.

With less than ten minutes until half time, the Stones equalised. Blair Turgott was put through on goal, before rounding Joe Anyon and slotting home into an empty net.

In added time of the first half, the visitors almost took the lead. Justin Amaluzor managed to sneak the ball past Anyon, but his shot was cleared off the line by Josef Yarney.

Maidstone managed the first attempt in the second half following a slow start by both teams. Amaluzor evaded a challenge by Josef Yarney before shooting straight at Anyon.

The Spireites came so close to re-taking the lead just after the hour mark. Boden managed to chip Lewington, but the ball somehow struck the woodwork rather than over the goal line.

Chesterfield finally regained the lead in the 68th minute. Boden was allowed time to turn his marker in the box after Tom Denton headed the ball down, before powerfully firing his effort past Lewington.

With just under ten minutes to go, Chapman was brilliantly found on the left-hand side by Haydn Hollis. The wing-back laid it off to Boden, but his effort went wide of the goal.

Chapman would also prove to be instrumental in the next attack. The on-loan Lincoln City teenager fired his shot into the back of the net thanks to a touch from the unfortunate Will De Havilland.

Maguire finished off the scoring in added time. His 25-yard effort flew past Lewington for his first goals since November.
