After signing from Alfreton Town earlier in the week, Tom Denton was quick to mention the “great welcome” he has received since joining the Spireites. When speaking to the media on Thursday, the striker commented on how pleased he is to have the opportunity to play in the Vanarama National League again.
He said: “I’m looking forward to playing in the conference again, like you say it is the top tier of non-league football.
“I’m obviously looking forward to that, and hoping for a good result on Saturday.”
The striker then pointed out what he can bring to the side, and said that he will be giving everything to support his new Chesterfield teammates.
Denton said: “I can obviously link the play with my feet and my chest. I like to bring people into the game, and help my teammates as much as I can.”
Denton then went onto say that moving to a new team is never easy, but everyone at Chesterfield has helped make it a smooth transition.
The striker said: “The lads have been great with me to be fair. I drove in on Tuesday morning at eight o’clock and there was somebody waiting for me to show me around.
“Then the captain showed me around and I met all the players. It was a great welcome because you always feel a little bit nervous when you come to a new club, but I got a nice welcome.”
The Spireites have gone five games without finding the net, but Denton is happy with the amount of competition there is in his position.
He said: “You need good competition for places. There are some good strikers here, we just need to start scoring again.”
Looking ahead to the game at Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday, the striker made it clear that there are no easy away fixtures in this league.
Denton said: “We all know what away games are like in this league. They’re always tough so any points you can pick up on the road is a bonus really. We’ll be looking to go to Dagenham and get three (points).”
