Team news

During his pre-match press conference on Monday, Martin Allen has confirmed that Tom Denton will be unavailable due to suspension after picking up a booking in Saturday’s draw at home to Wrexham.

Allen has also confirmed that young striker Levi Amantchi is set to take Denton’s place in the starting XI following impressive substitute appearances in recent weeks.

The opposition

The Manager – Paul Doswell

Doswell started his management career with Eastleigh, who he guided to three consecutive promotions from the Wessex League to the Conference South. In May 2008, he was appointed as manager of the U’s, making him the longest serving manager in England’s top five divisions.

In his first two seasons at Sutton United, he guided the team the Ryman League play-offs, losing to Staines and Kingstonian respectively, before eventually securing promotion to the Conference South in 2011, when they were promoted as champions.

Five years later, Doswell’s side once again gained promotion as champions, this time of the National League South. In the 2016/17 season, Doswell famously guided Sutton to the FA Cup fifth round, when they were eventually knocked out by Premier League giants Arsenal. Last season, he helped the club achieve their highest ever finish, securing third place in the National League.

One to Watch – Craig Eastmond

Eastmond has been in good form for Sutton this season and is their top goal-scorer, with five goals so far this campaign. The midfielder, who can also play as a full back, began his career at the Millwall academy before moving to Arsenal.

He was unable to establish himself in the Gunners first team, making just four senior appearances, as well as taking in loan spells at Millwall, Wycombe Wanderers and Colchester United, making his moved to the latter permanent in 2013. He would make a further 49 appearances before moving to Yeovil Town in 2015. Later that year, he joined Sutton United where he was part of the team that won the National League South.

Head to Head

This game will be the first time that Chesterfield have ever faced Sutton United.

From the dugout

Martin Allen on Sutton United:

‘’It’s a difficult place to go and play, he [Paul Doswell] always gets them fired up. They are a good team and good teams are always hard to beat.’’
