Chesterfield were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday to stretch the Spireites’ unbeaten run to nine games.

Martin Allen made one change to his starting line-up with Lee Shaw replacing Zavon Hines following the 1-1 draw against Billericay Town.

The visitors had the first opening of the game when the ball fell to Alfie Pavey whose fierce strike which was saved well by Callum Burton.

Shaw found some space on the edge of the area and struck a driven, left-footed effort goalwards but the shot was easy enough for Ben Dudzinski.

Neither team managed to create many chances in a cagey first half which came to a close at 0-0.

Havant & Waterlooville came close to taking the lead early in the second half through Alex Bradley when his shot from outside the box took a deflection past Burton but went just over the bar.

The Spireites came agonisingly close moments later when Kyel Reid’s cross found Curtis Weston who headed well from close range but Dudzinski saved superbly to keep it goal-less.

Chesterfield continued pressing for an opener. Haydn Hollis found himself in space following a corner and struck a goalbound volley but the opposition defence managed to avert the danger.

Levi Amantchi, who was introduced as a substitute, worked himself into space and curled a right-footed shot which was just over the bar.

Weston then found Amantchi in the area but the striker headed just over.

Chesterfield were in control and went close yet again when Laurence Maguire climbed well from a free-kick but headed wide of the target.

Another substitute, Tom Denton, was inches away from opening the scoring. Jonathan Smith delivered a cross high into the area which Denton latched onto, but his looping header went over the bar.

Joe Rowley came close five minutes from time. Smith found Rowley on the edge of the area and the midfielder struck a first-time shot which narrowly missed the target.

The Spireites had two huge chances late in added time. Shaw fired a left-footed shot from outside the box which was amazingly tipped onto the bar by Dudzinski. Will Evans fired the rebound back at goal, but the Waterlooville goalkeeper was again equal to it.
