The Spireites had to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw at Cheltenham Town after taking the lead through top scorer Kristian Dennis with just over a quarter of an hour of the game
Dennis got on the end of a Bradley Barry high ball but the advantage lasted just five minutes as Robins sub Brian Graham scored from close range with his first touch of the game.
Jack Lester made two changes, Dennis and Andy Kellett returning in place of Chris O'Grady and Jak McCourt, who were both on the bench alongside fit-again keeper Joe Anyon, with Louis Dodds and Jerome Binnom-Williams also back.
Cheltenham, who won at the Proact in Lester's first game in charge, were unchanged after a fine win at Swindon Town last weekend.
Drew Talbot forced a save in the opening minute but the hosts soon found their range with Joe Morrell hitting just wide ahead of Carl Winchester seeing a shot blocked whilst Aaron Ramsdale made two more than decent saves to keep out 20-yarders from Morrell and Nigel Atangana.
With 32 on the clock, Robins defender Jamie Grimes misjudged a high ball which fell for Dennis but he swung and miscued from a great position.
Ramsdale showed great skill to palm away Mo Eisa's angled shot and Morrell just couldn't bring the loose ball to heel.
Just before the break, Kellett skipped through the home rearguard but pulled his shot inches wide.
The Spireites started the second half strongly and they couldn't just turn a Kellett free kick into the net as the wind swirled around.
The hosts brought on Harry Pell and his influence upped his team's show and Chesterfield had some time back pedalling before Jacob Brown forced a save ahead of Dennis bringing down a high ball and poking it through Scott Flinders' legs in front of the travelling fans.
Gary Johnson made a change and it worked immediately as Graham swept in a right-sided cross from close range.
Both sides looked to turn one point into three, Ilias's shot went close and sub Dodds crossed in from the right and the ball almost dropped in at the far post, but on a day when several of the teams just above Chesterfield lost, the point gained could be a vital one in the coming weeks.
