Spireites boss Jack Lester spoke to the media yesterday ahead of the match with Cheltenham Town tomorrow, 3pm. Here’s a flavour of what he had to say…..
On injury update: “We might be able to get Ian Evatt into a training game next week, we’ll see how he gets on, but he’s making good progress.
“Robbie Weir’s ahead of schedule and has trained this week, Louis Dodds has trained, Jordan Sinnott has done full training today, it’s good to have him back.
“Jerome Binnom-Williams has trained, he missed out last week with a cold.”
On Lincoln City frustrations: “I was very annoyed with last week, we spoke quite heatedly this week, underlining the situation that we’re in. I need to pick a team that’s prepared to fight.
“We had a discussion, though it was more of a bust-up really, I felt it important for clarity on the situation that we’re in.
“If you’re lucky enough to get a shirt, you must do enough you maintain that shirt and get your career on track. You’re in a squad of 20 and there’s competition within your own walls.
“Everyone’s had a chance, no-one has really been dropped if you like, but nobody has knocked on my door and said I should be playing. No-one’s really nailed a spot to do that and that’s frustrated me. That was my point, you’ve got to take care of your own career, in doing so the squad will benefit, there’s got to be fight.”
On Cheltenham Town and the remaining games: “I think they’re in their best form, and there’s not the pressure of going up or down, the shackles are off and they’ve probably produced their best performances of the season.
“If they were consistent, then they’d be up there, if you watched them recently, you’d wonder why they’re not in the top seven. So, it’s a tough game and we’re going to have to be ready for it.
“We’ve got everybody in and around us, but you’ve got to start winning football matches."
