Attacking midfielder Charlie Carter, who joined the Spireites for an undisclosed fee from Woking last week, has spoken of his excitement at the challenge that lies ahead.
“I’m very excited about this new challenge and the new season," said Carter. "I can’t wait to get started.
“I got a call from Martin Allen and he just told me what his plans were and that he was interested in signing me. I’ve heard good things about Martin and great things about Chesterfield FC and it was something I was very interested in.”
Carter was Woking’s top goal scorer in the National League last season, scoring 12 goals in 41 appearances.
Carter admits that the manager did a great job in selling the club to him. “He has high expectations," said the 21-year-old. “He told me the club has good support with a massive ground and it's a club that wants to be successful and back in the Football League.”
Spireites striker Gozie Ugwu, who played with Carter at Woking in the 2016/17 season, also influenced his decision. “He’s had good things to say about this club and he gave me some good feedback and that helped my decision to come here," he said.
