The Spireites prepare for their penultimate pre-season fixture when they travel to Alfreton Town on Saturday (3pm)

Martin Allen has named a trio of academy players in the squad while Joe Anyon returns in goal after starting on the bench in Wednesday night’s Tommy Lee testimonial match against Wigan.

Laurence Maguire and Jamie Sharman will play in central defence, with Jordan Sinnott at right-back and George Smith - who will also be captain on the day - at left-back.

Sam Wedgbury and Joe Rowley will play in central midfield, with Ify Ofoegbu on the left and Drew Talbot on the right.

Lee Shaw will be partnered by Luke Rawson in attack.

The substitutes bench will comprise of Shwan Jalal, Bradley Barry, Charlie Wakefield and Levi Amantchi.

Allen was impressed with how the youngsters performed last week and is keen to involve them. He said: “Nuneaton last week was a really tough game; those boys really acquitted themselves well.

“We are trying to integrate them into the first team as often as we possibly can, getting games and enjoying training with us.

“It’s great for them and I really enjoy having them along as well. They’re hungry, they’re enthusiastic and they fitted in really well with the players currently in the first-team squad.”

Allen also talked about the depth of his squad as they approach the first game of the season. He commented: “The good thing is with this group of players, there’s many options with many different positions.

"We’ve practiced and trained with all players being able to play in different positions so they can be rotated and other people can go in and play at any time and I don’t think it will make us any weaker.

“With these young players coming up, if we train them hard for the next three/four/five/six months, then hopefully one or two of them will be really stepping up as well.”

Admission to the game at Alfreton will cost £10 for adults and £6 for concessions.
