Martin Allen was pleased with his team's display in last night's 4-0 victory at Gainsborough Trinity.
Gozie Ugwu opened the scoring before the interval and second-half goals from a triallist striker, Zavon Hines (penalty) and Laurence Maguire gave the Spireites a comfortable win.
Speaking after the game, Allen said: "I thought it was a very good team performance and a good squad effort.
"I eased off on the players yesterday and I think it showed. We were very good without the ball and very good with the ball.
"If anything, we could have perhaps been a little bit better in the final third, with the ball, but we're a work in progress and we're improving.
"The players looked quick and strong in the second half and tonight was a big step forward for everybody. It was a real team effort."
Allen took another look at several triallists and he was satisfied with their performances. "They've all done well and they're all going to be involved for the rest of the week, taking them through to Saturday," he said.
Just a day after packing boxes in a factory, new signing Lee Shaw came on for the final half-an-hour and Allen was pleased with his contribution.
He said: "We saw what he was about and he had a couple of shots, even in that time. He's busy, he's hungry and I think he's going to turn into a real fans' favourite."
