Jack Lester Pre Yeovil Town

18 January 2018

Spireites gaffer Jack Lester spoke to the press today, ahead of Saturday’s away trip to Yeovil Town in Sky Bet League Two. At the height of the January transfer window, the manager had a lot to say on new signings, and how important is it to get three points against Yeovil, who sit one place above Chesterfield in the table.......

On new signing, Alex Whitmore: “He’s a good player, and he’s young but experienced having been out on loan twice already.

“He’s got a bright future and ticks all the boxes we were looking for. It was a very easy decision.”

On more possible further incomings: “We’re looking at a number of options. There’s a lot of work going on to try and make the squad as balanced and effective as possible.

“Obviously we’d like one or two more experienced heads, but they have to be right for the club.”

On the win over Luton Town: “It was a top performance, very positive. The clean sheet was really good, and it was a solid defensive display against one of the top scoring teams in the country. The attacking football was really good too.”

On striker Chris O’Grady’s performance: “I thought he was excellent. He really led the line, bullied the two centre halves and gave us a platform to win the game.

“I think the goals will come as he gets sharper and fitter. But when he doesn’t score, there’s many other things he does for the team. It was a very good centre forward performance.”

On team news for Saturday’s game: “Scott (Wiseman) is getting back. Bradley (Barry) will travel with us to Yeovil. He’s been training with us and it’s good to have him back too.

“We’ll have to see about Kristian (Dennis), it’ll be a late shout. Gozie Ugwu has been joining in little bits of training but it’ll be a few weeks before he’s back.”

On Yeovil: “It’s a game we’re looking forward to. They’re a good side but there’s areas where we think we can hurt them.

“We’re very clear already on how we’re going to approach the game, the shape and where we think we can be successful. We’re at our best when we’re attacking teams and that will certainly be the plan on Saturday.”
