The sad news reaches us that former Spireites forward Rodney Fern passed away last night at the age of 69.
He died peacefully surrounded by his family in the care home where he has been for a few years whilst suffering from dementia.
Rodney joined Chesterfield from Luton Town in 1975 and went on to score 54 goals in 152 league appearances before joining Rotherham United four years later.
After retiring from playing, Rodney entered the licensed trade and later ran a fuel business in his native Leicestershire.
Our thoughts are with Rodney's family and friends at this difficult time.
