Chesterfield have secured young midfielder Joe Rowley on a new three-and-a-half-year contract.
After signing the agreement, which ties him to the club until the summer of 2021, Rowley said: “It’s been a great journey so far and I just want to carry it on.
“I’ve learned a lot from all of the players and coaches that I’ve worked with. I’ve had some good experiences and I can’t wait to have some more!”
Manager Jack Lester felt it was important to secure the 18-year-old on an extended deal. He said: “Joe is a young prospect who has a very bright future. It’s great to tie him down and show our intentions to look after the future of the club.”
A product of the club’s academy, Rowley made his debut against Rochdale last March and made a further six appearances before the end of the season.
Since recovering from an injury suffered in pre-season, Rowley has featured regularly in the side and has now made a total of 26 appearances for the Spireites, scoring three goals.
