Spireites manager Jack Lester spoke to the media yesterday ahead of tomorrow’s match with Accrington Stanley (3pm). Here’s what was up for discussion this week: -
On Sid Nelson, Zavon Hines and Josh Kay: “Sid’s a centre half who is aggressive and a leader, we’re delighted to get him.
“He comes highly recommended from Neil Harris at Millwall, it’s not his first taste of football, with a couple of loans and he’s played for Millwall’s first team so it’s a great one for us.
“Zavon can play on the left or the right flank, he can also play as a number 10, so he’s someone who I’ve seen train for a week and is very passionate and loving the fact that he’s got a chance.
“He’s got a glint in his eye that says he wants to go and do fantastically well.
“Tommy Wright has worked with Josh, he’s got great energy and he works really well. When we get him match fit he’ll be a great prospect.
“He’s someone who I think can go on and have a really great career.”
On player departures: “It’s football and players need to go and get on with their careers.
“I’ve left clubs football clubs as a player and it happens. Manager’s have their ideas of which players they want and the style that they want.
“The coaching staff and I are trying to produce a team that’s competitive and goes to the top of the league and gets promotion. That’s why we’re here, so we’ve got to make decisions that we think will suit the style of play that we think will win football matches.”
On injuries to Sam Hird and Ian Evatt: “Sam’s had a scan and it wasn’t good. It’s a grade III so that could mean 10-12 weeks out.
“It’s a real blow for us at the back because the squad is so thin, we’ve not been able to rotate but at the same time you can’t legislate for that.
“Ian needs an operation, he’ll be out for a few months.”
On Accrington Stanley match: “We’ve competed with everyone we’ve played with. Coventry went third and we were right in that game.
“So, we’re positive and very excited about the future, we’ve got to gel this group as quick as we can and get moving forward.”
