Congratulations to Spireites academy striker Will Russ, who has been called up to represent Wales U16s in the UEFA Development Tournament in Greece.
Russ is part of the 20-man squad managed by former Spireites defender Rob Page, who flew out to the tournament yesterday (Saturday), and could take part in up to three matches against the host nation, Russia and Slovakia.
Speaking about Russ’ call up, academy lead coach for the development phase, Darren Molloy, said: “It’ll be a great experience for him both in terms of responsibility and also playing with and against different players, it’ll benefit him massively.
“I spoke to him prior to him going and naturally he was very excited about the tournament, everyone at the club wishes him all the best.”
Page’s side take on the host nation tomorrow (Monday) at the Emileon Training Centre before facing Russia two days later at the Municipal Sports Centre of Agrinio. Their final match with Slovakia will also take place in Agrinio on Friday.
Russ has impressed at various levels for the academy this season and has regularly featured for the youth team. Earlier in the campaign, Russ became the club’s youngest player to have signed an academy scholarship.
