An Alex Kiwomya brace handed Chesterfield all three points against promotion hopefuls Salford City with a 2-0 win at the Proact on Saturday.

Levi Amantchi replaced Jordan Hallam in the Spireites starting line-up as the only change from the side that faced Grimsby in the FA Cup.

The heavy rain didn’t stop Chesterfield’s quick start which saw them take the lead inside two minutes. Amantchi broke into the Salford box and squared the ball across to Kiwomya who fired home from close range cueing the Spireite celebration.

The away side were working their way into the game, Rory Gaffney found space on the left and crossed to find Thomas Walker who managed to get a shot off, but Callum Burton saved comfortably.

Amantchi was looking a threat for the Spireities, five minutes before the break the 18-year-old skipped past the Salford defence with a blistering burst of pace, he then hammered a left-footed effort goalwards which Christopher Neal had to keep out.

Martin Allen’s side dominated much of the first half which ended with Chesterfield 1-0 up.

The Spireites started the second half well again and doubled their lead in the 59th minute. Substitute Hallam carried the ball into space and fired a fierce strike which was acrobatically tipped onto the post by Neal in goal, but Kiwomya tapped home the rebound for his and Chesterfield’s second of the game.

Salford were pushing for a goal and came close when substitute, Dennis Politic, struck a right-footed shot at goal but Burton palmed the ball out for a corner at full-stretch.

From the resulting corner, Carl Piergianni darted to the front post and flicked the ball goal bound but Jerome Binnom-Williams pulled off a heroic goal-line clearance to keep the score at 2-0.

Piergianni came close again when he latched onto a floated free-kick into the penalty area, but his close-range header was miraculously saved by Burton.

The Spireites held onto their two-goal lead and secured a well-deserved victory.
