The Spireites youth team face Wigan on Saturday, in their first game of the Youth Alliance Cup, kick-off 11am.
The first two games of the league season have produced contrasting results, as they recorded a resounding 4-0 victory away at Scunthorpe United, in the first game of the season. However, in their next game, Miguel Llera's side fell to a 4-1 loss, at the hands of Bradford City at home.
Coach Llera, commented on how Saturday’s game against current Youth Alliance North West leaders, Wigan, is another tough test for his team.
He said: “I thought we were really poor. We’ve come back into our routine. We are playing against a really good side.
“I think it’s a really good challenge for the boys.”
Llera also mentioned how pleased he is to see members of his young side, breaking into the first team squad. The latest of these being young striker Levi Amantchi, who was an unused substitute last weekend against Salford City.
Llera said: “The success of the academy, and our job is to bring the players into the first team.
“The first team manager is really close to us; he monitors what they have been doing every single week.
“It is a great opportunity for them. The first team manager really likes the young players. For him it is really important to reward them for performing well, and bringing them into the first team.”
The fixture takes place at the following venue:
St George's Park, Sheffield Graves
Admission for anyone wishing to attend is free, though supporters will need to register with the venue if they've not already done so. This can be done here.
