Ahead of Tuesday night's trip to Barrow, Martin Allen spoke about the strength of his squad following a start to the season which has seen three wins and three clean sheets.
Martin said: “I still maintain we’ve got a good squad of players and I still maintain everyone can come into our squad.
"There are goals right through the squad. Little Lee Shaw needs a few more training sessions and a few more weeks getting used to what it's actually like but he’s embracing it and we know he’s a goalscorer with the amount of goals he scored so we’ve also got him to introduce to the group.
“Wedgbury has been doing extremely well, too. The centre-halves have got goals in them and both full-backs I’m sure have got goals in them so it’s nice to have that. Everyone can score and everyone helps the team defend.”
Barrow are of course managed by Spireites legend Ian Evatt and Martin was impressed with what he saw when 'Evo' had a spell as Chesterfield's caretaker-manager.
He said: “In that Newport game I came to watch at the end of last season, I thought they played very well. He made bold changes at half time which influenced the game second half and it was a much better performance and much higher tempo in a good victory.
“He’s had a good footballing career but of course that doesn’t give you any right to be a good coach or good manager. He’s a good manager, he’s young, he’s hungry, on the way up and I think it would be right to say he’s an iconic Chesterfield figure and I’m sure all our supporters will give him a reception when they see him tomorrow night in the right manner.”
